Last in First Out..Not the Best Plan

Teachers are going to be layed off, I think we have pretty much established that so now people are worried about the system in which these layoffs will work. I agree with Stewart Singer and other writers in there saying that "last in first out" is not the way to go.  With technology progressing the way it is the newer teachers would probably be more useful, although the older teachers have more experience they barely  know how to run a modern classroom. Remember the saying "you cant teach an old dog new tricks", well i definately think that applies here. I actually have a suggestion. How about making teachers who have been teaching past their reguired years for retirement retire. Maybe that would free up a little extra money...but its just a suggestion. I have come to the conclusion that no matter who gets layed off things are going to get pretty bad in the education department and I foresee education in general having a very steep landslide. Why is education always the first to go?? Our future as a nation depends on the intelligence of the generations that come after us, this situation just really leaves me in a state of confusion.

Intervention

A very popular topic right now is whether the U.S should intervene in Libyan affairs. I believe that despite anything that is happening and has happened in the past we should intervene. Even if  the United States motives are valid or not, there should never be a time when people question the value of lives. Are we really willing to sit and watch humans die for the sake of keeping our political composure?? I am disappointed that this is even an issue although i cannot say that I do not understand the opposing argument. Getting involved with affairs that really have nothing to do with us has bitten us in butt several times before. Perfect example George W. Bush declaring war in Afghanistan, but I would be more willing to make a mistake trying to do what I felt was right than to not do anything and have regrets. President Clinton regretted failing to save lives during the Rwandan Genocide. Could we live with that? I just think that there are certain things that should not be questioned and whether or not someones life is worth saving is one of them. Point blank

Troubles in Egypt??

USA Today writes about the United States having an expected uncertain future in Egypt. I understand everyones questions about what could possibly happen, especially since nobody knows who will be Egypt's new president and how he will feel about the ally and peace treaty with the US. Another issue that is of major concern is that now that Egyptians know that they can heavily influence their government how far will they try to take their new found power? By no means am I suggesting that we try to suppress these people but reality is that this is a concern. How much tolerance will they have for our nation, if they decide to tolerate us at all?? The US has been able to successfully keep peace and protect US interest with newly resigned President Mubarak for almost 30 yrs now. This could be a another disaster in the middle east that we do not need, bringing up another concern of how many many neighboring countries will attempt this? Effecting the already rocky stability our nation has. I completely disagree with presidential spokesman Robert Gibbs in his saying "I don't think we have to fear democracy." Bottom line...we have a lot to fear. President Obama seems to be keeping a cool head about the entire ordeal, but saying that we have hard times ahead. He also praises the restraint of the Egyptian Military calling them "caregivers" and speaking on lifting the emergency police power laws that protect the rights of citizens and revising the countries laws and constitution. The author did a great job of showing how certain people in positions of power view this situation and I believe this is a must read :) Very informative and easy to follow. Although the author does not seem to choose a side, they allow the reader to be able to view both sides and make a decision for themselves. Two thumbs up...:D
